Week 7 fantasy football cheat sheet

(Each week, the PFF Fantasy cheat sheet will have all the relevant fantasy football content for the week in one place for you to keep track and review as needed as you prepare for that week in fantasy.)

This is the most frustrating time of the fantasy football season, with bye weeks coming en masse but the waiver wire coming up fairly dry. Yes, if Hunter Henry is available in your league, he’s a must-add, but he’s just one guy, and after him, it’s a bunch of maybes and ifs.

Drafting handcuffs is a debatable strategy. Some advocate for picking up your stud running back’s backup in the late rounds and stashing him all year long, while others say it’s a waste of a roster spot for someone who might not even be productive even if things break right for him. And it’s a fair debate.

This time of year, though? It’s time to consider it more strongly. If you aren’t picking up someone to play in a given week, this is a good time to look down the road at your handcuff options. Reggie Bonnafon is a Christian McCaffrey injury away from being a borderline must-start. Alexander Mattison would be a top-10 RB if Dalvin Cook were to get hurt.

You don’t need to grab a handcuff to your own back. But if you’re rostering someone like Rex Burkhead or Raheem Mostert or some other low-floor, low-ceiling back, this is a good time (if you can afford it) to stash a player who could actually be a difference-maker down the stretch, even if he isn’t necessarily one now.

On to the Week 7 advice.
