NFL Week 7: Fantasy IDP report

Rashan Gary rising: Gary played his highest snap share of the season coming out of the team’s bye week and while he didn’t have a huge game in the score sheet, he continued to post some of the best pass-rush metrics in the league and can be locked into starting IDP lineups going forward.

Jamal Adams no longer limited: Adams saw ideal IDP safety usage in his first every-down game since 2011, putting him back in the weekly starter territory for fantasy purposes.

Jaelan Phillips also gets back to his regular workload: A common theme this week was star IDPs ramping back up their playing time and Phillips was no exception, leading to a strong game.

Week 7 Takeaways

Waiver wire
  • LB Tyrel Dodson, Buffalo Bills: Given Dorian Williams‘ benching and Dodson's better play, IDP managers will want to add Dodson but wait on starting him in Week 8 because nothing is yet set in stone for the Bills’ lineup.
  • LB Jack Campbell, Detroit Lions: Campbell finally moved up the depth chart in a meaningful way for IDP this week, playing a season-high 90% of Detroit's defensive snaps. Interestingly, Campbell played 27 (50%) of his defensive snaps on the edge, which hurt his tackle efficiency. The overall workload should lead to more productive games for the first-round rookie as long as he continues to be the team’s secondary linebacker option for the remainder of the year.
  • LB Drue Tranquill, Kansas City Chiefs: With Nick Bolton out, Tranquill should be considered a priority add off the waiver wire (again). Tranquill was a full-time player in previous weeks with Bolton out of the lineup, which continued in this game once Bolton left.
  • LB Luke Masterson, Las Vegas Raiders: Should Divine Deablo miss time, Masterson would be the next man up and a part-time player to consider for deeper leagues.
  • LB David Mayo, Washington Commanders: Mayo will be a viable linebacker option in deeper leagues while Cody Barton is out. Mayo won’t likely play a full-time role — probably between 70-80% of the team's defensive snaps— but could still be productive for IDP managers in need.
  • ED Odafe Oweh, Baltimore Ravens: Oweh returned after a four-game absence and immediately looked like the Ravens’ best pass-rusher again. Oweh registered his first sack of the year to go along with four total pressures. Oweh should be in consideration as a pickup for IDP rosters in need of edge depth.
  • ED Darrell Taylor, Seattle Seahawks: Taylor should play a larger role going forward with Nwosu out for the year. Taylor led the team with 1.5 sacks this week.
  • S Andre Chachere, Arizona Cardinals: With Jalen Thompson out and K’Von Wallace seemingly demoted, Chachere played an every-down role and even led the team in total tackles. He can be useful in deeper leagues.
  • S Jonathan Owens, Green Bay Packers: With Darnell Savage expected to miss time, Owens would be his replacement for IDP managers searching the waiver wire in deeper leagues.
  • S Andrew Wingard, Jacksonville Jaguars: Should Andre Cisco miss any time, Wingard is the clear next man up and can be started in deeper leagues.

  • Trending down: K’Von Wallace was active for this game but didn’t play a single defensive snap. He did play six special teams snaps. Wallace will be droppable in most leagues if this happens again next week. Wallace’s demotion did come out of nowhere, so it could be worth waiting for one more week in deeper leagues, if necessary. However, he should not be started in any league size in Week 8.
  • Waiver wire: With Jalen Thompson out and Wallace seemingly demoted, Andre Chachere played an every-down role and even led the team in total tackles. He can be useful in deeper leagues.

This also marks the third time in the past four games that Landman has doubled the number of tackles that Elliss has produced. Elliss is emerging as one of the league’s most inefficient tacklers at the position (10.1%) and is not a must-start option going forward while this slump continues.

In a post-game press conference, Miller suggested that it was not due to an injury setback but more due to the Patriots running the ball more in the second half, which caused the Bills to lean on Shaq Lawson. Miller should not be started in IDP lineups until his snaps get over 50% and remain that way consistently.

The Bills are playing on a short week and neither player should necessarily be started in IDP lineups on Thursday night.

  • Waiver wire: Jack Campbell finally moved up the depth chart in a meaningful way for IDP this week, playing a season-high 90% of Detroit's defensive snaps. Interestingly, Campbell played 27 (50%) of his defensive snaps on the edge, which hurt his tackle efficiency. The overall workload should lead to more productive games for the first-round rookie as long as he continues to be the team’s secondary linebacker option for the remainder of the year.

  • Point of interest: Brian Branch returned after a two-game absence but only played 50% of the defensive snaps. The opposing Ravens offense spent just 35% of their offensive snaps in 11 personnel, which was even lower than their season norm coming into this game and kept Branch off the field. He could end up being a matchup-dependent IDP option if that usage continues.

  • Trending up: Rashan Gary came out of the bye week and returned to a normal snap share seemingly without a playing time limitation for the first time all year. Gary has been an elite edge rusher and even in a game where he didn’t post strong box score numbers, he put up some of the best pass-rush metrics of the week. He can be comfortably started in IDP lineups again going forward.

Unfortunately for his IDP managers, he was not overly productive with his snaps while Isaiah McDuffie led the team in tackles despite not playing even 70% of Green Bay's defensive snaps. Don’t expect that to be a continuing trend going forward.

  • Trending up: Jaelan Phillips saw a snap increase this week after playing fewer than 50% of Miami's defensive snaps last week in his first game back from injury. As a result, Phillips started to produce closer to what fantasy managers were expecting coming into the year, as he came up with a sack and seven total tackles. Bradley Chubb is also heading in the right direction with two sacks on the day, giving him four on the year while averaging 82% of Miami's defensive snaps per game this season.

  • Point of interest: The Seahawks opted for more three-safety looks this week, which cut into Jordyn Brooks’ playing time. Brooks was still a very effective IDP this week but if this scheme continues leaning more on the safeties, then Brooks could become harder to trust in lineups.

Julian Love 89.6% 0.0% 1.7% 33.3% 50.0% 13.3%
  • Trending up: Jamal Adams played an every-down role for the first time since Week 11 of 2021. Adams saw the exact usage that IDP managers would hope for, as he barely played any snaps from a deep alignment and was used almost exclusively closer to the line of scrimmage.
  • Trending up: Julian Love benefited from the team playing more dime personnel than they have all season (28.4%). If the Seahawks continue to do so, Love could still continue being an effective IDP asset.

  • Waiver wire: David Mayo will be a viable linebacker option in deeper leagues while Barton is out. Mayo won’t likely play a full-time role — probably between 70-80% — but could still be productive for IDP managers in need.
