Throughout the 2011 season, Tyler Loechner and Alex Miglio will select Twitter questions and answer them right here at PFF Fantasy. Although you’re bound to have your questions answered almost immediately from the staff on Twitter, we will choose a handful of good questions each week and give them more in-depth answers. Here are this week’s questions and answers:
Spiller, wells, bowe, a.brown or s.moss at flex this week? Also would you drop any of them for jonathon stewart going forward? – @SoyConor
Miglio – That is quite the list of options you have there. It is going to be tough to see how Spiller will pan out with Jackson on IR — he did not do much against the Dolphins when Jackson went down, though the Dolphins have been good against the run in recent weeks. Bowe’s fantasy season was almost unraveled until the Chiefs picked up Kyle Orton, but his value is still depressed until they get Orton going in that offense. Wells started the season on a great note but has not been doing much as of late — after his 138-yard, 3-TD explosion against the Giants way back in week 3, he has not cracked 100 yards and scored just twice. That leaves Brown and Moss, and for me this is elementary — Brown is in a good offense with a good quarterback, while Moss is not and just returning from injury. While I like Moss for the rest of the season, I would hesitate to play him over a lot of guys this week.
As for dropping any one of them for Jonathan Stewart, I would say that Spiller is your best bet, unless you have great depth at receiver aside from this trio. I am not sold on Spiller having a great run to end the season, and Stewart is the better back in Carolina right now, even though DeAngelo Williams has shown some signs of life as of late. Stewart’s problem is getting into the end zone, with Cam Newton stealing a lot of the goal line carries. He is a dual-threat though, making him especially valuable in PPR leagues going forward.
I was getting smashed in a league I had Charles in. I picked up Murray and he's been great! Can Kevin Smith do the same? Hope so!! – @TheWoodIsGood_
Loechner – Kevin Smith seems like a different player this year than in years past, so he has what it takes to step in and fill the void on your team that Charles left. He has 206 yards on 27 carries this season, a 7.6 YPC average.
Smith injured his ankle against the Packers on Thanksgiving and was forced out of the game. It was initially believed he would miss several weeks, but there is hope that he could be back by next week. Smith has been very injury prone throughout his career, but he has looked explosive so far this season.
In 15 snaps before his injury on Thanksgiving, Smith touched the ball 10 times (7 carries, 3 receptions). Whenever he is able to suit up and play again, he’s worth a start.
drop manningham or Julio jones for moss? Or neither? – @osb_tensor
Miglio – For Randy Moss? Just kidding. This is a good question, since Santana is coming back from injury this week. I do not think there is any reason to drop Jones, assuming he is going to stay healthy from here on out — not a given, but hopefully the Falcons have truly let his hamstring heal. Manningham seems to have been supplanted by Victor Cruz, if not in playing time at least in Eli Manning’s mind. I would say that, given Moss is going to be the only real wide receiver option for the Redskins, Manningham would be the man to drop. I like Moss better than Manningham for the ROS, especially in PPR leagues. Moss had at least 5 catches in all but one game before the one where he was injured, and he should be able to hit the ground running since his injury was to the hand, not his legs.
Mailbag: what's your opinion on allowing eliminated teams to trade w/non-eliminated teams? Our league doesn't allow it – @CaliforniaJag
Loechner– It depends a little bit on your league rules, but in general I’d be in agreement with your league commissioner. Usually, a trade deadline is set in place to eliminate late-season trades from happening anyways.
If you are in a money league that awards money to all places based on finishing position, then I would allow trades between eliminated and non-eliminated teams. Since everyone is still “fighting” for something, it makes sense.
I also don’t think eliminated teams should drop a person onto waivers so that a playoff team can pick him up. This ruins the spirit of the game. Another way to deal with this would be to add veto system which can eliminate outlandish trades.
Bryant or AJ Green please? – @BigUg1976
Miglio – Well, since Bryant already played, I hope you chose Green (though I believe I advised Bryant via Twitter — sorry). Bryant is a must-start, though I did think he would not have a huge game against an improving Dolphins’ defense. Someone did, as it turns out, but it was Laurent Robinson. Green is coming off injury, but he has developed a great chemistry with rookie quarterback Andy Dalton.
Rb2 – Tate, Donald brown, or Ingram? – @DonseliusDurang
Loechner– I would go with Mark Ingram, although Ben Tate is not far behind. My guess is that with Matt Schaub injured in Houston, Jacksonville will make it a little bit harder for Tate and Arian Foster to find room running.
Ingram has not been as consistent as fantasy owners would have liked, but he has produced. While he has seen the least snaps among New Orleans’ running backs (170), he has received the most carries (93). If New Orleans commits to the run on Monday night, Ingram should finish the game with 65 yards and a touchdown.
