Fantasy: Special Teams Pickups - Week 11

Last week, I made the right call at the top kick returner spot, with Randall Cobb having 156 return yards and a touchdown, as well as some receiving yards. All three kickers I selected scored a fair number of points, but each had a missed field goal which was disappointing. It’s that time of the week to let you know who you need to add to your Week 11 lineup.

Kick Returners

Deji Karim – The Jaguars return man finds himself in the top 10 in terms of kick return yards on the season with 501. In recent weeks against strong legged kickers, he’s been limited in his returns. Over the past three weeks he’s had just five returns. However against the Browns, Phil Dawson has only had six touchbacks all year, which means Karim will get many opportunities to return than usual.

Ten Ginn – If you read this column every week, you’ve seen Ginn’s name here many times before. He averages 29 yards per return which is fourth best for anyone with at least 10 returns. While the Cardinals won’t score much, they will a little bit, which should give Ginn a few kick returns. 70% of Jay Feely’s kicks have been returned, so two to three kick returns sounds reasonable. We’ll probably see more punting out of Arizona, and Ginn ranks third in punt return yards with 338 yards. He is one of the lowest risk return men with a high reward possibility.

Clyde Gates – After not returning kicks for a few weeks, Gates has returned as the Dolphins return man with two returns last week. The Bills can put up points against the Miami defense, and Rian Lindell has had just two touchbacks in his last 11 kicks, which is a good sign for the number of returns Gates will get. He has averaged a solid 22 yards per return, which should be enough to get some solid fantasy points.

Kickers

Robbie Gould – The Bears have been playing well recently, averaging over 32 points per game over the course of the last four games. This has moved Gould up to fifth in the rankings of most field goals made with 20. They are up against a Chargers team who hasn’t looked good in recent weeks, so all signs point to Chicago keeping up the pace it’s been on recently.

Matt Bryant – I picked him last week, and he was solid with three made field goals, but also missed his first of the season. The Titans defense is good enough that it should be able to stop the Falcons a number of times, but not great so Atlanta should get into field goal position a number of times. He’s made 15 out of 16 kicks which is solid in terms of accuracy. He just needs more opportunities which he should get.

Jason Hanson – With the Lions offense slumping, and Hanson having just three field goal attempts in the last two seasons, some owners may have given up on him. You should take advantage of their mistake, as the Lions should be able to put up a lot of points against the Carolina defense. They have allowed 20 points by every team except the Jaguars, and the Lions definitely have a better offense than the Jaguars do.
