Fantasy: Offensive Depth Chart Review - Jacksonville Jaguars

Quarterback:

1 – David Garrard

In 2010 Garrard made for a nice fantasy quarterback heading into the end of the season. In five of his last eight games he reached over 250 yards passing and 14 touchdowns in that span. He specialized in throwing in the middle of the field, where he had a +20.0 PFF rating, looking good even on deep passes. His rushing is also a fantasy asset, where he had 279 yards and five touchdowns in 2010.

2 – Trent Edwards

In four games Edwards saw the majority of snaps for both Buffalo and Jacksonville, and didn’t look impessive in those games with an overall +1.0 pass rating on the year. He was an oddity amongst quarterbacks in that he performed better under pressure than when there was no pressure.

3 – Luke McCown

Saw just 27 snaps in 2010, all in Week 2 against the Chargers. He completed less than 60% of his passes, and had just 6.3 yards per attempt.

4 – Todd Bouman

His only game in 2010 was his start against the Chiefs in Week 7. 67 of his 222 passing yards came on passes thrown behind the line of scrimmage.

Running Back:

1 – Maurice Jones-Drew

Over the past few years, Maurice Jones-Drew has been one of the best running backs in the game. He was fifth in the league in rushing yards in each of the past two seasons, and he had a total 45 defenders miss tackles on him in 2010 despite missing two games. He went from 53 catches in 2009 to 34 in 2010, but still had over 300 yards receiving each year.

2 – Rashad Jennings

In 2010 Jennings was the number two back in Jacksonville and started the last two games. He had a strong 5.5 yards per carry, although without his 74 yard run against Jacksonville it would be 4.6. He also was a nice receiving option with 26 catches on the season. He had defenders miss tackles on him 14 times on the season.

3 – Deji Karim

He only saw 70 snaps on the season, and only 16 since Week 8. He had 4.6 yards per carry on his 35 rushing attempts.

Fullback:

1 – Greg Jones

He was the Jaguars top fullback in 2010, but only had 2 carries, and 11 catches for 47 yards.

2 – Montell Owens

He had just five snaps with Jacksonville this year after 12 snaps in 2009.

3 – Brock Bolen

He received 36 snaps, mostly late in the season, where he had one catch for 15 yards.

Wide Receiver:

1 – Mike Thomas

In 2010, Thomas was the receiver who saw the most playing time with the Jaguars with 794 snaps. He often found himself in the slot where he caught two thirds of the balls thrown his way for 12.4 yards per reception. He had four home games where he saw over 80 yards, but only having four touchdowns hurt his fantasy rankings last year.

2 – Jason Hill

He only started playing for Jacksonville in Week 12, and only saw more than one target in the last three weeks of the season. In those games he had two catches for 40 yards, four catches for 77 yards, and three catches for 68 yards. 131 of his 248 total yards came on passes of 20 yards or more.

3 – Jarett Dillard

He last played in 2009 where he saw 75 snaps over six games with the Jaguars. He was thrown at eight times, caught six balls for 106 yards.

4 – Kassim Osgood

He saw the field third most of all Jaguars receivers in 2010, but was in for more run plays than pass. He typically just saw one target a game, and his best game was Week 1 where he had one catch for 24 yards and a touchdown. He was used significantly less the last four weeks of the season.

5 – Nate Hughes

He played in 2009 for the Jaguars where he had seven games, mostly at the end of the season. He caught less than half of his passes, but had 14 yards per catch.

6 – Tiquan Underwood

He was a backup for the Jaguars until Week 11. He only caught 8 of 21 passes thrown his way for 111 yards.

7 – John Matthews

Just had 15 snaps with the Jaguars in 2010, and he dropped the only pass thrown his way.

8 – Chris McGaha – Reserve/Futures Contract

9 – Jeremy Horne – Reserve/Futures Contract

Tight End:

1 – Marcedes Lewis

He has become one of the most well rounded tight ends in the league, which includes being one of the better fantasy tight ends. He had 50 or more yards in seven games this year, and what really helps his fantasy numbers is the 10 touchdowns he saw. He was especially strong catching on the left side of the field, where he caught all 15 balls thrown his way for 179 yards and five touchdowns.

2 – Zach Miller

He was the clear #2 tight end in Jacksonville in 2010. While his snaps seemed to increase as the season went on, his number of targets went down. In his best game he had 79 yards and a touchdown in Week 10 against Houston, but wasn’t much of a receiving threat in the rest of his games.

3 – Zach Potter

He is used much more as a run blocker than receiver, as he was only thrown at six times in 2010.

Kicker:

1 – Josh Scobee

He is a better field goal kicker than at kickoffs. He had just a 77.8% field goal percentage in 2010, although a large part of that is five of his six misses came on kicks of 40 yards or longer.
