Fantasy: IDP - Monday Morning Cornerback

It’s time for the Monday Morning Cornerback to update some of the biggest IDP stories that have happened over this crazy offseason. Let’s get right to it.

Linebacker Chad Greenway got slapped with the franchise tag from Minnesota Vikings, giving him $10 million for the upcoming year.  Greenway finished last season with a solid 11.4 PFF rating to go along with 109 solo tackles, 145 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 2 passes defended. Obviously this is a pretty big signing for the Vikings, while Greenway is one of the few players who don’t have to wait for the current lockout mess to get resolved before getting a deal.

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker, James Harrison, underwent two back surgeries to removed a herniated disc off a nerve, and then to clean up some more that was found during the initial surgery.  Despite being on the wrong side of 30, Harrison is still an integral part of the Steelers defense, posting 70 solo tackles, 100 total tackles, 11 sacks, 2 interceptions, 6 forced fumbles, and 5 passes defended last season, and accumulating a ridiculous 51.3 PFF rating last year. He's expected to be healthy by May.

Initial reports on D’Qwell Jackson’s recovery from pectoral surgery are positive. So positive, in fact, that he was resigned to a one-year contract worth up to $4.5 million, despite only playing 4 games over the last two seasons. In his last full year, in 2008, Jackson amassed 95 solo tackles, 154 total tackles, 2 sacks, 3 interceptions, and 6 passes defended, which was good for a negative 4.2 PFF rating in 2008,

One of the biggest splashes of this off season was O.J Atogwe’s release from the Rams, and signing by the Redskins to a $26 million contract, which includes roughly $12 million guaranteed. Last season, Atogwe had 64 solo tackles, 73 total tackles, 2 sacks, 2 sacks, 3 interceptions, 2 forced fumbles, and 9 passes defended, for a 4.5 PFF rating.

One of the most shocking stories of this off season has been Brandon Meriweather’s involvement in a shooting in February.  While his involvement is still to be determined, his future is not looking good.  Meriweather only managed to get 49 solo tackles, 68 total tackles, 3 interceptions, and 6 passes defended last year, with a lowly negative 10 PFF rating.

The San Diego Chargers went out and signed Bob Sanders to what is believed to be an incentive laden deal, which would make sense for both sides as Sanders has only played a total of 9 games over the last three seasons.  Over that time, Sanders has only managed to accumulate a negative 2.4 PFF rating, so he’s not exactly elite.

A.J. Hawk was a surprising release by the Green Bay Packers, however they quickly went out and resigned him to a new 5-year $33.75 million deal. This is a good move for both sides, as Hawk was coming off the strongest season of his career with 72 solo tackles, 111 total tackles, 1 sack, 3 interceptions, 10 passes defended, and a negative 0.7 PFF rating.

One of the bigger named casualties of this off season was Bernard Pollard. He was non-tendered by the Houston Texans after playing in 15 games last season, and accumulating 82 solo tackles, 112 total tackles, 3 sacks, 4 forced fumbles and 5 passes defended. However, once you get passed the outstanding fantasy numbers, you see that Pollard as a below average defender with a negative 6.1 PFF rating.
