Denver The Broncos are still scrambling to replace Knowshon Moreno, the 31st ranked RB by PFF. They recently signed Justin Fargas and LenDale White to take his place. Unfortunately White is not practicing due to injury and Fargas, due to his injury history, may follow. Moreno is expected back at practice next week, which is good news for fantasy owners. Chances are he will not see any preseason action. Rookie WRs Thomas and Decker have returned to practice in a limited amount for now. The rookies are looking less liekly to be major contributors in 2010. Media darling Tim Tebow has injured his ribs and will not see action in this week's preason game. If you are looking for a deep sleeper, you might want to take a chance with TE Marquez Branson. He is expected to fill the stretch the field TE that Tony Scheffler was in previous years.
Kansas City The running back jobs are being contested in Kansas City. Thomas Jones, ranked the 56th RB by PFF, is now running with the ones. PFF 3rd ranked RB Jamaal Charles is running sometimes with the ones and other times with the twos. The coaches have said Charles' role has yet to be determined. Subtracting touches from Jones and Charles may be Dexter McCluster. In his preseason debut, he looked like a clone of Charles, extremely explosive and slippery. Grab him later in redrafts and in your rookie drafts. Dwyane Bowe, the 82nd PFF ranked WR, has been looking great in camp.
On the defensive side, it appears that LB Andy Studebaker looks like a long term replacement for the againg Mike Vrabel. Trade rumors continue for LB Derrick Johnson to be dealt to Detroit.
Oakland Michael Bush, PFF's 30th ranked RB, is running away with the starting job, because Darren McFadden who was the 42nd ranked PFF RB is suffering from hamstring issues. McFadden will be held out of his second straight preseason game. Jason Campbell looked timid and not in full command of the offense in his first preseason game. Campbell, the 24th ranked QB by PFF, has not received much assistance from his receivers with Chaz Schilens being injured and practicing half the time. Heyward-Bey has been less than stellar since the helmet and shoulder pads are on. In shorts, DHB is a monster. Coach Cable has said he wants TE Zach Miller to be more involved in the passing game and in the redzone. Miller has been Campbell's favorite target in camp. Zach will be available later in drafts.
San Diego Ryan Matthews looked good in his first preseason game. GM AJ Smith was gushing about his first round pick when he said he likes “everything about him.” Fantasy owners may have another reason for concern as FB Mike Tolbert is being used in goal line packages. A reduction in goal line carries could cause Matthews not to be as productive as expected. Malcolm Floyd, ranked #7 by PFF, has been Phillip Rivers' best receiver and is catching everything.
Contract talks are not going well between Smith and his best WR and OT. AJ met with Marcus McNeill, the PFF 49th ranked OT, and talks didn't progress as well as either side would have liked. Dombrowski filled in for McNeill and held his own against Julius Peppers. PFF's #1 WR Vincent Jackson appears to be in the middle of a long contract dispute. If you draft him, do not draft my high.
