Big upgrade coming to Florida's passing game?

The Florida Gators’ quarterback situation was one of the worst in the SEC last season, as their QBs combined to earn a -19.6 passing grade. The Gators also have to replace a total of 2,882 snaps along the offensive line, including in the form of several NFL draft picks.

That paints a bleak picture for UF’s passing game heading into 2015, but the good news is that the program’s new head coach Jim McElwain is coming off a season in which his starting QB Garrett Grayson ranked No. 5 in PFF’s QB rating metric (Grayson didn’t perform nearly as well in our grading system, however).

McElwain will choose between Will Grier, who redshirted last season, and Treon Harris, who saw action as a true freshman. Grier fared very well in the team’s spring scrimmage after putting up eye-popping numbers in high school, but it’s too early to tell who will win the job.

With Florida expected to field one of the top defenses in the country (Vernon Hargreaves is our No. 1-rated cornerback entering the season, by quite a bit), the Gators will be in the mix for the SEC East title if they can get even competent play out of its QB.
