Hilton-Luck could be NFL's best duo on deep passes

Finishing 2014 with a top-10 PFF grade at his position, T.Y. Hilton has turned his early-career success into a healthy contract extension. Signing what is reported to be a five-year deal for $65 that includes $39M in guarantees, Andrew Luck’s top target is now locked down for the foreseeable future.

In an offense that gathered veteran parts through free agency to round out its attack, the young and rising Hilton boasts a big-play presence that challenges the top of defenses — one that pairs well with Luck’s go-big tendencies.

Hilton hauled in all 14 catchable deep balls he saw last year. That figure, along with his 528 yards and five touchdowns on deep passes were all top-five numbers that built upon his already impressive 2013 work in the area.

Luck took more deep shots than any other QB in 2014 (88), and with his new deal on the horizon, the team did well to make sure his favorite target on those attempts will be part of the equation for years to come. These two are a great match for the Colts’ passing game going forward, and might be the most potent QB-WR combo on deep balls in the NFL.
