Fantasy: Special Teams Pickups - Week 15

My great week picking returners was followed up by another fairly good one. Stefan Logan had 147 return yards, and Leon Washington had 97. The kickers I picked let me down, but most of the kickers that did well are the ones you would expect to do well. Here are the players that will have some great games to help you win your playoff games.

Kick Returners

Josh Cribbs – Cribbs is coming off of two great games against the Bengals and Ravens, with 204 yards in those games, but only had one return last week against the Steelers. The Cardinals should be able to score a fair amount of points against the Browns defense. Over the past five weeks, Jay Feely has only had two of his 20 kickoffs touched back, so chances are Cribbs will get at least three or four returns. There is an added bonus as he still plays some as a receiver, so he should be scoring points in many different ways.

Dion Lewis – It has been awhile since I included the Eagles return man on this list, but he is coming off of a 92 yard performance against the Seahawks. If the Seahawks can put enough points up to give Lewis four returns, then the Jets who are fighting to keep their wild card spot can put up even more points. Nick Folk has had 76.5% of his kickoffs returned, which is the highest rate for kickers with at least 25 kickoffs. Even if the Jets score just three times, that would be four total kickoffs, so three returns for Lewis. Any more scores than that, and that is more returns for Lewis.

Ted Ginn – Because the 49ers defense is so good, it’s hard for Ginn to get the opportunities he needs. The defense hasn’t played as well recently, which led to 193 total return yards by Ginn last week. The Steelers offense has been playing well all season, so Ginn should get more returns than usual. Steelers kicker Shaun Suisham had 12 touchbacks in the first five games, and just 11 in the last eight, so Suisham should just have one or two touchbacks in this one.

Kickers

Rob Bironas – The Titans offense has been playing well recently, which has led to seven made field goals by Bironas in the last three weeks. He is going up an Indianapolis defense who has allowed points left and right all season. This should mean plenty of opportunities for Bironas to succeed.

Mike Nugent – Last week against the Texans, Nugent had a four field goal performance. The Bengals have had a rough last month with so many division games as well as Houston, so I fully expect them to take it out on the Rams struggling defense.

Matt Prater – During the 2011 season Prater has only made 75% of his field goals, but he has played well in that area recently, with just one missed kick over the last four weeks. The Patriots defense has been a mess in recent weeks, with a lot of different players starting from one week to another. If Prater is ever going to have a great fantasy game, this is it.
