Fantasy: Special Team Pickups - Week 10

The kick returners that I picked last week got the amount of returns I thought they would, but not as much yardage. Leon Washington had just 16.7 yards per return, while Devin Hester had just 10 yards per return. Joe McKnight busted out with a 59 yard return, as well as a 24 yard one so he was a solid pickup. At kicker David Akers was the best guy you could add as he went four for four. It’s another week, so time to figure out who to add.

Kick Returners

Randall Cobb – I’ve mentioned his name here before, and for good reason. He’s had at least 100 return yards in each of the last two games. He goes up against the Vikings where he had 113 return yards last time. This time around the game is in Green Bay which should make it harder for Ryan Longwell to kick; and therefore more likely that Cobb will have an opportunity to return the ball.

LaRod Stephens-Howling – The Cardinals return man has been amazing recently with over 100 yards in three of his last four games. The key to his success has been the number of returns he’s had, and the Eagles should score as many points as anyone. Over the last three games, Alex Henery has had 17 kickoffs, but just three touchbacks, so Stephens-Howling will get his chances to return yet again in this one.

Josh Cribbs – You can’t really go wrong with Cribbs. He plays over half the snaps at wide receiver, and he has had 196 return yards on six returns over the past two games. He goes up against kicker Josh Brown, who has had just nine touchbacks on the year; five of them coming within the first two weeks of the season. Look for Cribbs to get more chances to return than usual, which should be for big gains.

Kickers

Josh Scobee – He has the most field goals made by an AFC kicker who is still perfect on the season. Even more crazy is that nine of his 13 field goals have come from 40 yards or beyond. The problem is the Jaguars just aren’t scoring enough, but this week they go up against the Colts, so they should be able to get into field goal range a few times.

Dan Carpenter – Last week the Dolphins finally looked good and got their first win. This time around they go up against the Redskins who have been struggling a lot recently. Although Carpenter has already missed three kicks on the season, he should be able to make enough field goals to make up for the fact that he might miss one.

Matt Bryant – He is another kicker who is perfect, making all 12 kicks so far. In order to beat the Saints, they will need to score a lot of points. With the Saints secondary hurting, they should see a lot of opportunities to score points. Therefore Bryant will be given the opportunities he needs to have a solid day scoring points to make his fantasy owners happy.
