Fantasy: Instant NFL Draft Reaction - Brandon Weeden to the Cleveland Browns

Brandon Weeden has two primary concerns and they are matters beyond his control. One is his age – he will be 29 next season. Two is the Oklahoma State offensive system. It is a system that encourages getting the ball out of the quarterbacks hand almost immediately and often-times to a pre-determined spot. As a result, we just don’t really know how good Weeden will be at handling a moving pocket around him. What we do know is that if given time, he has one of the best arms – not surprising for a former minor league pitcher.

Fantasy Spin:

The Browns said they were confident Colt McCoy will make improvements this season. If the Cleveland Browns are taking Brandon Weeden at 22, they must not be too confident he will do it as a starter. There will likely be a quarterback competition from the get go and it's likely that Weeden will win out or else the coaches would not have taken him. The fact that Brandon Weeden has questions against the blitz should be helped with the presence of left tackle Joe Thomas and new running back Trent Richardson. The problem for Weeden is the receivers, where Cleveland has arguably the worst unit in the NFL. It's a big question mark and it seems unwise to expect Brandon Weeden to become a top fantasy QB in that situation right now. But then again, even if it was in the Oklahoma State offense, he put up massive numbers in the Big 12. So who knows?
