All-PFF Team, Week 13

Week 13 didn’t just feature one of the best games of the season, it featured some of the best performances of the season as well.

Granted the two I’m referring to actually came from that Packers victory over the Giants, but the point stands; this was a week where we got to see a lot of good football players playing a lot of good football. What more could you want?

So sit back and find out which players made our All-PFF Team of Week 13 as we endeavor to bring you the best performances from each and every round of games the NFL brings us.

OFFENSE

Quarterback:  Aaron Rodgers, GB (+12.2)

No real surprise here. Rodgers put up points, overcame adversity and set up the game-winning field goal with a drive so clutch you wondered what all the fuss was about.

Running Back:  Marshawn Lynch, SEA (+3.3)

Lynch topped 100 yards … after contact. That’s how much he punished the Eagles' defenders who tried to tackle him on his way to a 148-yard day. Edges out Ray Rice, Toby Gerhart, and a rejuvenated Chris Johnson.

Fullback:  John Phillips, DAL (+2.1)

I don’t get Phillips. He either looks awful or awesome. This week it was the latter and this week he makes the team.

Tight End:  Jason Witten, DAL (+3.3)

Witten didn’t have any touchdowns but earned his 47 yards with a couple of missed tackles, and earned his spot on this team with his run blocking. Still got it.

Wide Receivers:  Pierre Garcon, IND (+4.1) and Percy Harvin, MIN (+2.8)

The Colts' Garcon decided to create himself a little highlight reel as he made excellent catch after excellent catch in an intriguing fourth quarter. Two touchdowns for Harvin who is as any dangerous as anyone when you get the ball in his hands (124 yards after the catch).

Tackles: Jeff Backus, DET (+4.1) and Phil Loadholt, MIN (+5.7)

Backus looked at his best against Will Smith, holding him to just the one pressure, while Loadholt was grateful Von Miller wasn’t on the field. He took advantage of the opportunity to post a perfect game in pass protection to go with some excellent run blocking.

Guards: Wade Smith, HST (+3.3) and Marshal Yanda, BAL (+4.0)

Both our guards had perfect days in pass protection, with Smith finally finding the form that made him a Pro Bowler in our eyes last year, and Yanda continuing to play like the best guard in the league.

Center: John Sullivan, MIN (+3.2)

There aren’t many harder tasks than matching up with Brodrick Bunkley when you’re a center. Sullivan didn’t get the memo as he comfortably won that battle to continue his remarkably successful year.

DEFENSE

4-3 Defensive Front

Defensive Ends:  Jason Pierre-Paul, NYG (+11.6) and John Abraham, ATL (+7.0)

It got a bit tough to watch as JPP destroy Marshall Newhouse over and over again. Three hits and six hurries only tell part of the story in his best game as a pro. Abraham gets overlooked because sacks numbers are down but trying telling Eric Winston that he isn’t a force to be reckoned with.

Defensive Tackle:  Linvan Joseph, NYG (+3.9) and Vince Wilfork, NE (+3.7)

That’s as good as I’ve seen Joseph ever look, and as good as I’ve seen Wilfork look all year. They’ll hold firm in the middle, with the two combining for 13 defensive stops this week.

Linebackers:  Mike Peterson, ATL (+4.2), Stephen Tulloch, DET (+2.2) and Thomas Howard, CIN (+4.0)

Jerod Mayo came close to making this team but narrowly missed out, with Peterson unlucky not to walk away with a game-changing interception returned for a touchdown, and Howard making plays whatever situation the Bengals put him in. A note to all teams looking for middle linebacker help: Stephen Tulloch only signed a one-year deal in Detroit. Ignore him at your peril.

3-4 Defensive Front

Defensive Line:  Calais Campbell, ARZ (+4.9), Sione Pouha, NYJ (+2.4) and Justin Smith, SF (+4.3)

Campbell is one of these players who keeps on making plays yet his profile never seems to rise. Why is that? Maybe a sack-and-four-hurry day will get him some more attention come end-of-year voting. As for Smith, he is getting the praise but truthfully, he’s so good he could always do with a bit more. Made it look easy against the Rams. Stick Pouha in between these two and let him clog up some running lanes and you may have my ideal three-man front.

Outside Linebackers:  Clay Matthews, GB (+6.7) and Aldon Smith, SF (+7.9)

Smith earned that grade on just 21 snaps. He’s already pretty good and it’s only playing time preventing him making a bigger impact. With Matthews you may not see the numbers we’ve become accustomed to but he’s actually playing better as the Packers turn him into their version of James Harrison. Will he rush the passer or will he drop the coverage? Seemingly it doesn’t matter because either way he’s going to make a play.

Inside Linebackers:  Sean Lee, DAL (+7.2) and Derrick Johnson, KC (+4.5)

Lee was all over the field as he attempted to bring down the Arizona offense by himself. He broke up a pass, hurried the QB three times, and picked up five defensive stops in a virtuoso display. The Chiefs' Johnson was his usual playmaking self in inspiring the Chiefs to victory; amazing to think he couldn’t get in their lineup in 2009.

Cornerbacks:  Joe Haden, CLV (+3.1) and Vontae Davis, MIA (+2.5)

After some rough weeks, Haden looked back to his best in allowing none of the four balls thrown his way to be complete, while picking up two pass deflections. Davis allowed a garbage time TD (where the coverage was near perfect) but set the tone for taking away the Raiders' passing attack by allowing just 44.4% of throws his way to be completed.

Safeties:  Reed Doughty (+3.2) and O.J. Atogwe (+1.8), WAS

With the contract of LaRon Landry coming up for renewal, the Redskins have an interesting dilemma given how well the combo of Doughty and Atogwe worked. Who would have thought getting people in roles that work for them, could work out for the team.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Connor Barth hit four kicks over 40 yards as he tried to keep the Bucs competitive against the Panthers … Britton Colquitt got some excellent hangtime and net yardage (48.8) … Laradarius Webb took a punt in for six as he showed himself a playmaker on special teams as well as defense … Mike Tolbert made an incredible five special teams tackles.
