Whether you’ve lost players to injury, are looking for a bye week fill in, or are simply looking to upgrade your IDP’s, the IDP Waiver Wire is here to help you know who to look for in your league’s waiver claims.
Andre Carter, DE, New England Patriots
Carter's career has been completely revitalized by the move to New England. The Pats' conversion from a 3-4 to a 4-3 presented a terrific opportunity for the 32-year-old Carter to move from 3-4 OLB (in Washington) back to 4-3 DE (his natural position), and he's absolutely thrived as a result. Carter's +11.4 rating is eighth-best amongst 4-3 DE's, and he's a good bet to finish with double-digit sacks. Without question, Carter should be a top-priority waiver-wire pick-up for Week 9, particularly given that the Pats' bye week (Week 7) is behind them.
Mathias Kiwanuka, OLB, New York Giants
Heading into the season, there was good reason to wonder how the Giants would find enough playing time to satisfy their quartet of talented 4-3 DE's (Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, Jason Pierre-Paul, and Kiwanuka). As it's turned out, a combination of injuries and a position shift for Kiwanuka (to OLB) has rendered that debate moot. Kiwanuka's +10.7 rating is sixth-best amongst 4-3 OLB's, and in the past two weeks that strong play has started to translate to some very hefty fantasy production (2.5 sacks, a forced fumble, and 11 solo tackles). Look for Kiwanuka to be a valuable fantasy asset for the duration of the season.
Captain Munnerlyn, CB, Carolina Panthers
As the #1 corner on the Panthers, Munnerlyn is in a uniquely valuable position. His play this season has been solid if unspectacular (+2.2 rating), thus ensuring that he's got job security at least where 2011 is concerned. And yet, because he isn't a dominant shut-down corner, opposing QB's target him regularly, thus providing him with ample opportunities to produce solid IDP stats. In Week 8, the two factors converged nicely, as he managed to put together a fantastic IDP scoring line (sack, forced fumble, fumble recovery, six solo tackles) without defending a single pass much less registering an interception. In other words, Munnerlyn is a perfectly serviceable pick-up, but it's quite possible that he'll be #3 on the Panthers' depth chart when 2012 rolls around, so buyers should beware in dynasty leagues.
Bernard Pollard, SS, Baltimore Ravens
Pollard's been an IDP factor since he burst on the scene with a spectacular 2009 performance, and though his numbers slipped slightly in 2010, he was still a weekly must-start. This year, after he was cut by the Texans and signed to be Tom Zbikowski's back-up in Baltimore, there was reason to doubt whether he'd have much if any value. But after Zbikowski went down with a concussion, Pollard stepped in admirably. Only two safeties outscored Pollard from Weeks 6-8 in PFF's IDP Expert League, and he's clearly earned more playing time moving forward.
