Fantasy: Offensive Depth Chart Review - Cincinnati Bengals

Quarterback:

1 – Carson Palmer

To some people’s surprise, he had the tenth best in terms of PFF pass rating in 2010. Due to a large number of opportunities, he had 3960 passing yards which was sixth most in the league and his 26 touchdowns was ninth best. He throws a high number of interceptions and doesn’t give much in the run game, but he is fully capable of producing high numbers.

2 – Jordan Palmer

Over the past three years he has had a total of 28 snaps at quarterback. He hasn’t been too impressive, with four sacks and two interceptions in 20 drop backs.

3 – Dan LeFevour

He didn’t play a snap in his rookie 2010 season.

Running Back:

1 – Cedric Benson

This past year wasn’t the best for Benson. He had the lowest yards per carry for all running backs with more than 200 carries with 3.5 yards per carry. His 2.3 yards per carry after the attempt don’t help him much ether, as well as only 178 receiving yards. However his 322 carries was fifth most in the league, which means he is still a viable option at running back.

2 – Bernard Scott

In the opportunities Scott was given, he thieved with a nice 4.9 yards per attempt average. His longest run was 18 yards, so his average isn’t inflated by any long runs. His best game was 50 yards and a touchdown, so he hasn’t shown he can be the top ball carrier yet.

3 – Brian Leonard

In 2010 he was dominantly used as a receiving target. He had 20 catches for 137 yards and a touchdown on the 151 pass routes he ran. There were only 16 rushing plays he was in on, and half of those he was blocking.

4 – Cedric Peerman

He was buried on the Bengals depth chart in 2010, and was given a few opportunities in the last two weeks of the season mostly on passing downs. He had one 11 yard catch.

Fullback:

1 – Chris Pressley

In seven games with the Bengals in 2010, he just had one run and one catch.

2 – Fui Vakapuna

After being drafted in the 7th round in 2009, he has yet to play an offensive snap.

3 – James DevelinReserve/Futures Contract

Wide Receiver:

1 – Chad Ochocinco

Despite not being talked about as much in 2010 once the Bengals started losing, he still rated as an above average receiver and the best one on the Bengals roster. After a great start of the season against the Patriots, he hit a rough patch. A good game against the Falcons put him back on track and the last six games he played in he had positive ratings.

2 – Terrell Owens

In 2010 Owens took the fantasy world by storm, with a five game span where he had 41 catches, 618 yards and seven touchdowns. In Week 10 against the Colts he came back to earth, and saw at most 64 yards in a game from then on out.

3 – Jerome Simpson

After just two snaps in the first 13 games, he started the last three. He caught 80% of passes thrown his way, although that is a small sample size of 25. His 13.9 yards per catch aren’t bad ether.

4 – Jordan Shipley

He spent much of 2010 in the slot as the Bengals third receiver, and consistently saw three or four targets a game. He had his fair share of big games as well, but his 72% catch rate and 11 yards per catch are typical for slot receivers.

5 – Andre Caldwell

He played as the fourth receiver for the Bengals in 2010, but was only really part of the offense the last three weeks when Owens was injured and Ochocinco got a break. He had 89, 87, and 94 yards in his three starts.

6 – Quan Cosby

He only had 28 snaps in the 2010 season, with two catches for 16 yards.

7 – Shay Hodge

He has yet to play an offensive snap.

Tight End:

1 – Jermaine Gresham

As a rookie he didn’t play quiet up to expectations in 2010. His 68% catch rate is around average for tight ends, but he had 8 drops which is the fourth highest for tight ends. His 9.1 yards per reception is also on the low end for tight ends. However his 76 targets was above average for starting tight ends, and he will hopefully improve in his sophomore season.

2 – Reggie Kelly

Although he’s a backup tight end, he saw a very high number of snaps in 2011. He was only thrown at 11 times despite running 161 routes and had 42 yards.

3 – Chase Coffman

He saw 52 snaps, mostly late into the season. He was thrown at four times, all in Week 17, and had three catches for 30 yards.

4 – Garrett Mills

He saw 87 snaps with the Eagles in 2010 prior to joining the Bengals where he had no playing time on offense.

Kicker:

1 – Mike Nugent

He kicked for the Bengals from Week 1 to Week 10, where he was perfect within 40 yards on field goals, and was four for seven beyond that.

2 – Clint Stitser

He was the kicker for the Bengals the last five weeks of the season and in that time made seven field goals, but missed one that was within 30 yards.
