With the regular season wrapped up and the playoffs rapidly approaching, I wanted to take some time to reflect back on a very exciting fantasy season. I took a look at each and every edition of ‘Value Town’ to see my hits and my misses. Though there’s not enough space to give you all of my misses (face palm), I put together an All-Value Team that consists of my biggest hits of the season. Here's how each player performed in the week I recommended you play them. If you want to see what I originally wrote, just click on the “week” link for each player. Enjoy!
First Team
Quarterback: Matthew Stafford – Though his season was again cut short by injury, Stafford had a very nice day back in Week 8 versus Washington at home. He graded out at +3.2 on the day, completing 26 of 45 passes for 212 yards, 4 scores, and a two-point conversion.
Running Backs: Michael Turner – Turner went off for fantasy owners in Week 14 on the road in Carolina. In that game, he posted his highest PFF rating of the season at +3.8, and carried the ball 28 times for 112 yards and 3 scores.
Ryan Torain – One of the fantasy surprises of the season, Torain had his coming out party at home against Indianapolis in Week 6. He graded out at +2.8 for his 20 carry effort where he tallied 100 yards and 2 scores.
Jamaal Charles – Charles was certainly one of my favorites this season. Back in Week 8 he played Buffalo at home and posted a +4.6 PFF rating, which was his highest single game rating of the 2010 season and tied his career best from Week 17 of 2009. Though he failed to reach the end zone, he carried the ball 22 times for 177 yards and caught 4 of 5 targets for 61 yards.
Wide Receivers: Dwayne Bowe – Bowe went completely nuts back in Week 12 at home against Denver. In this game, he graded out at a ridiculous +4.8 and caught 13 balls on 16 targets for 170 yards and 3 scores.
Hakeem Nicks – Nicks had a huge day in Week 5 when the Giants traveled to Houston. He notched 12 catches on 17 targets for 130 yards and 2 scores and posted a +3.4 PFF rating.
Mike Thomas – Thomas emerged into fantasy relevance this season, and solidified this status in Week 10 versus Houston. His +3.6 rating in this game was by far his best of the season. He padded his 8 catch, 149 yard, 1 score day with a miraculous Hail Mary reception that will certainly win some awards as play of the year.
Tight End: Aaron Hernandez – In this very difficult year for TEs, Hernandez gave owners something to smile about back in Week 8 when he faced Minnesota at home. He grabbed 5 balls for 48 yards and 2 scores, and graded out at +0.5 for his effort.
Second Team
Quarterback: Phillip Rivers – Rivers faced Denver at home in Week 11 and posted a +2.6 PFF rating. Though he only threw 24 passes, he completed 15 of them for 233 yards, 4 scores, and 1 pick.
Running Backs: LeSean McCoy – McCoy had his biggest fantasy day of the season back in Week 2 when Philadelphia traveled to Detroit. Though he only graded out at +0.6, he carried the ball 16 times for 120 yards and found the end zone 3 times.
Rashard Mendenhall – Mendenhall owners were frustrated all season by his limited snap counts, but in Week 12 at Buffalo he was on the field for 55 snaps. He carried the ball an eye-popping 36 times for 157 yards and a score, and posted a +2.2 for his monster effort.
Chris Ivory – In Week 13, Ivory and the Saints played Cincinnati on the road. Though he only had 15 touches, Ivory racked up 117 yards and 2 scores. His big day was good enough for a +2.4 PFF rating.
Wide Receivers: Jeremy Maclin – With Michael Vick hurt, Maclin posted his second highest rating of the season (+3.3) at home against Atlanta in Week 6. His 7 catches on 7 targets for 159 yards and 2 scores was his best fantasy output of the season.
Seyi Ajirotutu – The one hit wonder of the season, Ajirotutu went off in Week 9 in Houston. With the San Diego receiving corps banged up and depleated, he stepped up, catching 4 of 5 targets for 11 yards and 2 scores, and grading out at +1.1.
Austin Collie – Collie was perhaps the hottest player in fantasy football through the first six weeks of the season. Back in Week 3, he faced Denver on the road and blew up for 12 catches, 171 yards and 2 scores. He graded out at a season-high +2.6 for the day.
Tight End: Marcedes Lewis – Lewis stamped his name among the elite fantasy TEs this season. He got things going early on, and on the road against Buffalo in Week 5, he caught 4 balls for 54 yards and 2 scores.
