Your protypical in-the-box thumper, Barron is this year’s best offering at safety. At 6’1” and 213 lbs, he has good size at the position to accompany his solid skills and quick reaction. Though he shows more instinct for moving downhill against the run, he did show an ability to cover while at Alabama.
With the shifting coverage schemes where both safeties often float back and for the from strong to free, the era of the elite safety producing triple digit total tackle numbers looks to have passed. Yet Barron’s skill against the run will mean that we likely see an immediate fantasy impact from him. In the short term, Barron offers DB2 value in most all scoring formats, but he also comes with a relatively high ceiling in dynasty leagues. If the value is right, scooping Barron in these formats could land you a DB1 in the not so distant future.
