Fantasy: IDP Waiver Wire

Marcel DareusWhether you’ve lost players to injury, are looking for a bye week fill in, or simply looking to upgrade your IDP’s, the IDP Waiver Wire is here to help you know who to look for in your leagues waiver claims.

DT Marcell Dareus – Bills

Despite a slow start to his NFL career, the 2011 3rd overall draft pick Marcell Dareus finally showed up on the stats sheet in week 8 recording 3 sacks to go with 3 QB pressure’s and a tackle. He then followed this up with a solid 5 tackles and a fumble recovery in his week 9 game against the New York Jets. Although his 1 sack and 11 tackles going into a week 8 contest with Washington was nothing to write home about, his play up until that point had been promising. With an overall grade of +0.4 through weeks 1-5, Dareus has put together two very strong games since. Following on from a +5.1 grade against the Giants in week 6, Dareus returned from the Bills bye week to record a +5.7 in his 3 sack game against the Redskins. His performance dipped against the Jets (-0.6), but if he can continue with his good form veign of form, Dareus makes a great option at DT for the remainder of the season. With Denver and Miami both on the Bills schedule in weeks 15 and 16, favourable playoff matchups should also boost Dareus’s value.

DE Adrian Clayborn – Bucs

Adrian Clayborn is another rookie who is beginning to play much better than his stats currently suggest. Although he only has 3 sacks and 10 tackles on the season so far, Clayborn has accounted for 15 QB pressures and a further 5 QB hits. His PFF grade of +8.8 reflects his high level of play, ranking 15th among 4-3 DE’s. Although he struggled to make an impact against the Saints in week 9, posting a -0.6 grade, he remains in the top 10 ranked 4-3 DE as a pass rusher (7th). If he can continue to produce at this level, it shouldn’t be long before Clayborn begins to show up on the stats sheet more consistently.

LB Von Miller – Broncos

Broncos LB Von Miller is the third rookie to show up on this week’s IDP waiver wire. The 2nd overall draft pick has had a fantastic start to his NFL career, turning in 6.5 sacks and 22 tackles so far. Seen as one of the best pure passing prospects coming out of college, many doubted Von Millers ability in coverage and against the run. However, Miller has put any doubts to rest during the opening 8 weeks of the season, with his +10.7 grade against the run leading all 4-3 OLB’s, and his +5.9 and +4.9 rushing the passer and in coverage both ranking 2nd. Although his current lack of tackles limits his value, his big play potential should make him a solid LB3 option.

CB Jonathon Joseph – Texans

Since joining the Texans, Jonathon Joseph has bounced back from a disappointing 2010 with the Bengals. His current grade of +6.3 is good enough to rank him 7th among CB’s. Although his play is still not up to the level of his breakout 2009 season, when he finished with a +15.2 grade, his performance still merit’s a look for fantasy purposes. His 69.5 fantasy points are good for 10th among CB’s, and his tackle numbers (30 total tackles) along with his ability in pass coverage (3 interceptions and 3 pass deflections) make a fairly safe weekly play.

S Reggie Nelson – Bengals

Despite Reggie Nelson ranking among the top 10 safeties for much of the season, his ownership is still as low as 9.1% is ESPN leagues. The former 1st round pick of the Jaguars has been putting together a tremendous season with the Bengals, and his +3.1 grade is currently ranks him 10th among safeties. His improved on field performance has already netted him 3 double digit fantasy point scores (14, 11.5 and 20). His 41 total tackles so far in 2011 have resulted in solid scores all season, with only 1 week below 7.5 points. His big play potential (2 forced fumbles, 1 interception, 1 TD) allow him to put up big numbers, and combined with his solid tackle figures should be making Nelson a very popular waiver wire pick up.
