The San Francisco 49ers improved to 9-3 with a key NFC win over the No. 1 seed Philadelphia Eagles, exacting revenge after last year’s NFC Championship game when quarterback Brock Purdy hurt his elbow and was unable to throw the football.

Purdy was more than capable of throwing the football in this matchup, tossing four touchdowns en route to a blowout 42-19 statement win as San Francisco fights to get the first-round bye and the No. 1 seed in this year’s NFC playoff picture. The emotions boiled over in the third quarter when 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw and Eagles head of security Dom DiSandro were disqualified for an altercation after Greenlaw suplexed DeVonta Smith near the sideline.

Offensive spotlight: 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy was efficient in this game despite a ton of pressure early that virtually shut down the offense in the first quarter, completing 19 of his 27 passes for 314 yards (11.6 yards per attempt) with four touchdowns. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel backed up his trash talk during the week with 116 receiving yards on four receptions for two touchdowns, also adding 22 yards and a touchdown on three carries. Samuel forced a handful of missed tackles and also had phenomenal blocking in space from tight end George Kittle, among others. Running back Christian McCaffrey added 93 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries, routinely converting on key third downs. San Francisco was unstoppable with six straight touchdown drives to close this game out in convincing fashion.

The Eagles' elite wide receiver duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith certainly came to play, finishing with eight receptions for 114 yards and nine receptions for 96 yards and a touchdown, respectively. Smith took shot after shot but popped back up and fought for extra yardage on a handful of downfield snags. Without tight end Dallas Goedert in the lineup as he recovers from his forearm injury, the top-heavy nature of Philadelphia’s receiving corps is highlighted, though they’ve been able to overcome it to this point.

Defensive spotlight: 49ers interior defender Javon Kinlaw notched two sacks and two tackles for loss, though one sack came when Hurts lost his footing in the red zone after surveying downfield for at least five seconds. Nonetheless, Kinlaw was able to get upfield against a very strong Eagles interior offensive line, which was key as right tackle Lane Johnson largely kept Nick Bosa in check. Chase Young’s name wasn’t even mentioned against Jordan Mailata.

The Eagles' defense got off to a ferocious start, holding the 49ers to back-to-back three-and-outs with -6 total yards gained. However, after that, San Francisco scored a touchdown on every drive. Edge defender Haason Reddick had a sack early, and interior defender Fletcher Cox had another on the first play of San Francisco’s drive right after the Eagles' offense scored to make it a 21-13 game. Deebo Samuel scored on a 48-yard reception four plays later, and this game was all but over. The Eagles’ deficiencies over the middle of the defense were on full display, with Kyle Shanahan putting their linebackers in conflict all game long. Brandon Aiyuk and George Kittle seemed to come up with big snags on third down time after time.

Rookie spotlight: 49ers rookie safety Ji’Ayir Brown led the team with seven total tackles, including five solo tackles and three defensive stops. Rookie wide receiver Ronnie Bell handled punt return duties in the game with Ray-Ray McCloud III out for the game.

Eagles rookie interior defender Jalen Carter won three pass-rush reps on first review but was unable to generate any pressure as Brock Purdy got the ball out quickly. Rookie safety Sydney Brown had a big tackle for loss, as well, in limited action.
