The New England Patriots’ 22-17 Week 8 win over the New York Jets was not exactly a showcase for the 2021 quarterback draft class.

Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was intercepted once and threw an ugly pick-six that was erased by a roughing the passer penalty. He finished the game 24-of-35 for 194 yards with a touchdown and an interception. The interception that actually counted came when his arm was hit by pass rusher Bryce Huff while throwing.

Jets quarterback Zach Wilson went 20-of-41 for 355 yards with two touchdowns, but he also threw three ugly interceptions. It was unclear if Wilson was trying to throw the ball out of bounds or target heavily covered pass-catchers on two of those three picks.

Offensive spotlight: Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson served as nearly half of New England’s offense with 23 touches for 143 yards from scrimmage. (The Patriots had 288 total net yards on offense.) He ran for 71 yards on 16 carries but was credited with 81 yards after contact. He caught seven passes on seven targets for 72 yards, and 65 of those came after the catch. He forced five total missed tackles in the game.

Defensive spotlight: Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams registered one of New York’s five sacks on the afternoon. He also added a quarterback hit and a hurry on 31 pass-rush snaps.

Rookie spotlight: Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson was a bright spot for New York’s offense with six catches on seven targets for 115 yards and two explosive plays. He picked up 57 yards after the catch and forced a missed tackle.

Offensive line spotlight: The Patriots won despite their offensive line’s performance in pass protection. Right tackle Marcus Cannon, rookie left guard Cole Strange, center James Ferentz and reserve Isaiah Wynn all were credited with giving up sacks on PFF’s first review. Wynn filled during the game for both Cannon and Strange. The rookie also was flagged twice for holding, while Cannon allowed six total pressures. Give credit to Patriots right guard Michael Onwenu for holding up and not being charged with any sacks, quarterback hits or hurries.
