The New Orleans Saints shut out the New England Patriots on the road to move to 3-2 on the year and drop the Patriots to 1-4.

The Saints dominated the first half, taking a mid-first quarter lead on a 27-yard pick-six from Tyrann Mathieu. They added to that advantage on a two-yard touchdown run by Alvin Kamara, before Derek Carr found Chris Olave from five yards out to create a 21-0 edge at halftime.

New Orleans made it 24-0 on a 54-yard field goal from Blake Grupe, before Derek Carr and Foster Moreau connected from six yards in the end zone. Another Grupe field goal rounded out the scoring.

Offensive spotlight: Things continue to go badly for the Patriots' offense with Mac Jones under center. The former first-round pick went 12-of-22 for 110 yards and threw a pick-six after being hit. He also fumbled on a bad pitch to running back Rhamondre Stevenson. Jones' second interception on the day was not his fault, with the ball bouncing to Saints linebacker Pete Werner after a big hit on Ty Montgomery II. Bailey Zappe replaced him, going 3-of-9 for 22 yards.

The Saints spread the ball around on offense, with four players seeing at least three targets on the day. Chris Olave had two receptions for 12 yards and a touchdown on five targets, while Michael Thomas added 65 yards on four catches on seven targets. Running back Alvin Kamara had a long run of just 12 yards but enjoyed a solid day, rushing for 80 yards on 22 carries and finding the end zone.

Defensive spotlight: Carl Granderson recorded two tackles for loss and a sack for the Saints. Paulson Adebo had a pair of pass breakups, but the play of the day came from Mathieu with the pick-six that opened the scoring.

Ja’Whaun Bentley was the most active defender for the Patriots in this one, finishing the game with 11 tackles, five of which were solo, and a sack on a blitz.

Rookie spotlight: Rookie running back Kendre Miller got plenty of work for the Saints later in the game, rushing for 37 yards on 12 carries and adding 53 yards on four receptions.
