Offensive spotlight: New Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield had a solid performance, ending up with just 173 yards after completing 21 of his 34 attempts, including two touchdown passes and no interceptions.
Mayfield took advantage of some questionable plays by the Vikings' defense. His touchdown to Mike Evans was a nice pass but a total mismatch that found his No. 1 receiver singled up with a free safety on the play. Overall, Mayfield managed to avoid any of the glaring errors that have previously blighted his career.
Defensive spotlight: Oft-maligned linebacker Devin White had an outstanding game for the Buccaneers' defense that consistently had Kirk Cousins in trouble even if he kept on swinging. White blitzed 10 times and made three defensive stops in the run game. Some of his best work came in coverage, where he had another three defensive stops. White has always had exceptional athletic gifts, and he was able to deploy them for positive plays for his defense in this game.
Rookie spotlight: Vikings first-round draft pick Jordan Addison had a good debut, catching four of the six targets thrown his way against Tampa Bay. Two of his catches went for first downs and one resulted in a touchdown for Minnesota. Justin Jefferson was his usual outstanding self and Addison did enough to suggest he can act as a very important complement to the All-world receiver.
