The most anticipated backup quarterback battle of the offseason continued as the San Francisco 49ers gave Trey Lance and Sam Darnold each time to work in this one, but it Was the Las Vegas Raiders‘ Aidan O'Connell who stole the show in a 34-7 romp.
Offensive spotlight: Trey Lance got the first taste of action between him and Darnold, and it was a rather shaky showing. On the surface, he recorded one touchdown pass. PFF, however, heavily downgraded Lance for, well, this turnover-worthy … score.

Lance did make one big-time throw to boost his grade, but it will likely end up as a sub-60.0 mark after final reviews.
Defensive spotlight: A former top-five pick of the Raiders, Clelin Ferrell showed out against his former squad. On just five pass-rushing snaps, he managed a sack and another rep where he beat his blocker. Ferrell also made a run stop in the revenge game before his day ended.
Rookie spotlight: How about Aidan O'Connell? The fourth-round pick out of Purdue looked more than comfortable in his NFL debut, going 15-of-18 with two big-time throws and no turnover-worthy plays. And two of those incompletions were drops. O'Connell earned an 85.0-plus passing grade on PFF's first review.
Offensive line spotlight: Pending final reviews, the Raiders let up minimal pressure on the day, with both Dylan Parham and Hroniss Grasu staying clean in pass protection. Meanwhile, San Francisco struggled in that facet as Trey Lance was sacked four times.
