Kansas City Chiefs offseason wish list for fantasy

The roller-coaster ride that was the 2017 season for the Kansas City Chiefs ended with a thud as they were ousted in the Wild Card round of the playoffs at the hands of the Tennessee Titans. Kansas City started the season 5-0 before dropping 6 of 7 and then finishing the regular season with four straight victories. Quarterback Alex Smith set career highs in both passing yards (4,042) and touchdown passes (26) and the Chiefs boated the fifth-best overall offense last season. They would finish as AFC West champions for the second consecutive season at 10-6.

Kansas City rewarded Smith for that excellent performance by promptly agreeing to trade him to the Washington Redskins clearing the way for Patrick Mahomes to take over at QB. In a Week 17 start and victory over Denver Mahomes would put up 284 passing yards with one pick and zero touchdowns.

The running game appears to be set as rookie Kareem Hunt burst on the scene with 1,782 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns. Hunt is a versatile three-down back who posted an impressive 53 receptions in his first season and finished with top-five fantasy totals.

Three additions we want to see for fantasy

Eric Decker, WR: The veteran has a pair of down seasons due to injury issues and a struggling passing game in Tennessee. With Albert Wilson due to leave in free agency, Decker would be an excellent complement from the slot to Tyreek Hill. Decker has posted double-digit touchdowns three times in the last six seasons.

Josh McCown, QB: Coming off one of his most productive seasons, McCown has indicated that he wants to continue his career and would be the perfect backup option for the Chiefs. He wouldn’t push Mahomes but could bring fantasy value if forced into action.

Select a wide receiver in the second round of the draft: Take advantage of the depth at receiverin this year’s draft to get your young quarterback some talent to develop and grow with.
