Gibson signed a three-year, $11.25 million contract with the New England Patriots this offseason. His contract had more total value and more guaranteed money than other free agents, such as Austin Ekeler, Gus Edwards and Zack Moss, but those three all have ADPs at least three rounds earlier than Gibson.

The big question is how the receiving snaps will be distributed. Stevenson graded decently well as a receiver in 2022 but earned a 51.2 receiving grade last season with roughly half as many receptions. It seems very likely Gibson will at least take over third-down snaps. It’s decently likely Gibson can also take the two-minute snaps while being the primary backup in all other situations. Typically, a running back with the third-down and two-minute drill job won’t be fantasy-relevant unless you’re in a league where starting three running backs consistently makes sense based on the number of starters and scoring system. There is rarely a situation where you would start someone in that role when you are starting only two running backs.

Gibson should have a bigger role in the Patriots' offense than he had last season with the Commanders, leading to more fantasy points. Still, it likely won't be enough to put him in fantasy starting lineups in most leagues. His primary value is as a handcuff, as he could be a feature back in the offense if Stevenson gets injured.
