WR Hopkins, Texans agree to a 5-year extension

  • Adam Schefter reported on his twitter account that Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is signing a five year contract extension with the team. The contract is reportedly worth $81 million with $49 million in guaranteed money, the highest for any current NFL receiver.
  • In 2015 Hopkins was dominant, recording a career high PFF grade of 91.9, fourth best among wide receivers that season. His grade fell to 81.2 in 2016, 26th of 115 qualifying wide receivers.
  • Hopkins excelled catching deep passes (targets 20-plus yards downfield) in 2015, hauling in all 17 of his catchable deep balls and finishing second among receivers in deep targets, receptions and touchdowns. In 2016 he only had three deep pass receptions the entire season.
