- The San Francisco 49ers released veteran running back Tim Hightower Friday, leaving them with Carlos Hyde, Joe Williams, Raheem Mostert, and Matt Breida in their backfield along with free agent acquisition Kyle Juszczyk at fullback.
- Hightower played only 34 snaps this preseason, gaining just 20 yards (all after contact) on 11 carries (1.8 yards per carry). He also fumbled the ball once and surrendered a hurry in pass protection.
- Hightower has been an effective player in the past, averaging 1.96 yards while running 102 pass routes a season ago, while surrendering only one pressure in 24 pass-blocking opportunities as a part-time player for the Saints.
