  • Darrelle Revis is a legend for multiple teams: The Hall of Famer cracks the list for both the Jets and Patriots.
  • Miami's 2023 offense was something to behold: Mike McDaniel guided one of the league's best units, which provided several of the highest-graded seasons in Dolphins history.

In honor of PFF heading into its 20th season of grading and data collection, we’re taking a look back at the best single-season performances for each team, according to PFF grading.

As such, we’ve built a series of starting offensive and defensive lineups for all 32 teams using the highest-graded seasons at every position. There are a few rules:

  1. A player must have played at least 500 snaps in a given season
  2. A player can only make one appearance per roster (e.g., Julio Jones can’t take up all three WR slots for Atlanta)
  3. A player who was acquired midseason can still be slotted provided he fulfilled the required snap minimum for that team.

Without further ado, here are PFF’s all-time single-season lineups for the AFC East.

Buffalo Bills

  • RB: C.J. Spiller, 91.7 (2012)
  • WR: Lee Evans, 84.7 (2006)
  • TE: Scott Chandler, 74.8 (2011)
  • LG: Andy Levitre, 81.4 (2011)
  • C: Eric Wood, 78.6 (2011)
  • RG: Kraig Urbik, 77.2 (2013)
  • DI: Kyle Williams, 85.8 (2010)
  • DI: Marcell Dareus, 82.8 (2013)
  • LB: London Fletcher, 89.3 (2006)
  • S: Jairus Byrd, 93.2 (2012)

There’s a mix of different eras here with the Bills’ single-season roster, but the headliner is Josh Allen at quarterback. He’s currently in the midst of a streak of five consecutive seasons with at least a 90.0 overall PFF grade, a first by a quarterback in the PFF era. His highest-graded performance came in 2023, when he led the NFL with a 92.1 overall PFF grade.

On the other side of the ball, Buffalo carries a loaded group of safeties as well as an impressive defensive line. Jairus Byrd led all safeties with a 93.2 overall PFF grade in 2012, while Jordan Poyer and Micah Hyde posted identical 87.7 PFF grades in their first year together in 2017.

Miami Dolphins

  • TE: David Martin, 85.6 (2008)
  • LG: Richie Ingognito, 77.5 (2010)
  • C: Jake Grove, 86.2 (2009)
  • RG: Rex Hadnot, 77.8 (2007)
  • RT: Vernon Carey, 86.6 (2008)
  • EDGE: Cameron Wake, 90.9 (2012)
  • LB: Karlos Dansby, 78.7 (2011)
  • CB: Brent Grimes, 88.7 (2013)
  • S: Reshad Jones, 91.0 (2012)
  • FLEX: Yeremiah Bell, 79.8 (2010)

Miami’s roster is heavily influenced by the explosive offense it carried in 2023, which was the only season so far in Tua Tagovailoa’s career that he has played a full season. That year, Tagovailoa led the NFL with an 88.6 PFF passing grade. He was aided by Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, who placed first and seventh, respectively, in PFF receiving grade that season. Raheem Mostert also stood out with his elite 91.3 PFF rushing grade that led all running backs with at least 150 carries.

A couple of Dolphins legends make an appearance on the defensive side. Cameron Wake played several outstanding seasons in Miami, but none more so than his electric 2012 campaign, when he totaled a career-high 86 pressures. Linebacker Zach Thomas was at the tail end of his career when PFF was conceived, but his 90.6 overall PFF grade in 2006 led all linebackers who played at least 400 snaps that season.

New England Patriots

  • RB: Dion Lewis, 85.6 (2017)
  • WR: Wes Welker, 90.6 (2009)
  • WR: Randy Moss, 87.2 (2007)
  • WR: Julian Edelman, 83.9 (2015)
  • LT: Matt Light, 92.4 (2008)
  • LG: Logan Mankins. 94.2 (2008)
  • C: Ryan Wendell, 84.9 (2012)
  • RG: Stephen Neal, 91.3 (2009)
  • DI: Ty Warren, 89.0 (2006)
  • FLEX: Darrelle Revis, 84.1 (2014)

New England’s single-season roster reads like a hall of champions. Many of these players won at least one championship with the Patriots. Of course, Tom Brady was the ringleader of it all, and his highest-graded season came in 2016. En route to a Super Bowl 51 victory over Atlanta, Brady recorded an incredible 41 big-time throws compared to just eight turnover-worthy plays.

Bill Belichick was known for maintaining an outstanding secondary throughout his time with the Patriots. Many of those players had terrific single-season performances, particularly the group of cornerbacks above. Asante Samuel led the NFL with a 93.2 overall PFF grade and 12 interceptions in 2006, including the playoffs. Stephon Gilmore was rightfully a first-team All Pro in 2018. Darrelle Revis makes his first of three appearances in PFF’s single-season roster series.

New York Jets

  • WR: Jerricho Cotchery, 86.5 (2009)
  • WR: Lavernues Coles, 84.5 (2007)
  • TE: Ben Hartsock, 81.6 (2009)
  • LT: D’Brickashaw Ferguson, 90.4 (2008)
  • C: Nick Mangold, 93.7 (2008)
  • RG: Brandon Moore, 88.3 (2008)
  • RT: Damien Woody, 92.2 (2008)
  • DI: Damon Harrison Sr., 90.8 (2013)
  • LB: Bart Scott, 84.6 (2010)
  • CB: Darrelle Revis, 92.0 (2009)
  • S: Kerry Rhodes, 91.4 (2007)

It’s been quite a while since the Jets had any offensive success, but in the late 2000s, they carried a legendary offensive line. Four of the five players on that unit above played for the 2008 team that just barely missed the postseason. The only player missing is the legendary Alan Faneca, who was narrowly beaten out by John Simpson’s performance in 2024 his first year with the team.

New York has had a better defensive reputation, even through its extended stretch of hard times. The Jets’ single-season starting secondary is something to behold. Darrelle Revis was in peak form in 2009 with a 92.1 PFF coverage grade, the second-best of his career. Sauce Gardner followed in his footsteps in 2023, as he led the league in PFF coverage grade. Meanwhile, Jamal Adams put on an incredible display of versatility in 2018, finishing third in the NFL with an 89.8 overall PFF grade.
