The Seattle Seahawks put on one of the most dominant defensive performances of the season on the road against the New York Giants, racking up 11 sacks for just the ninth time in NFL history and adding on two interceptions, including a 97-yard pick six from rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon.
Offensive spotlight: Offensive highlights were few and far between in an ugly game, but Seahawks tight end Noah Fant caught a 51-yard pass from Drew Lock, who made a brief appearance after Geno Smith had his knee/ankle rolled up out of bounds on what he deemed a “dirty play” after the game. Fant got Seattle down to the Giants one-yard line. Kenneth Walker III punched in the score.
The only other offensive touchdown of the game came on a six-yard pass from Geno Smith to D.K. Metcalf in the back right corner of the end zone. Seattle’s defense set the offense up with a first-and-goal from the seven-yard line after a sack and fumble from Daniel Jones.
Daniel Jones completed one of two passes thrown 10-plus yards beyond the line of scrimmage, a 22-yard completion to running back Matt Breida. The lone bright spot was the continued resurgence of 2022 second-round pick wide receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, who played in his second game back from a torn ACL sustained in 2022. Robinson came down with five receptions for 40 yards, including four first downs and a missed tackle forced.
Defensive spotlight: We’ll get to Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon in the rookie spotlight, but Seattle’s defense notched 11 sacks between seven different players, including two each from starting linebackers Bobby Wagner and Jordyn Brooks, in addition to Witherspoon’s double-dip. Uchenna Nwosu also doubled up, and Boye Mafe, Mario Edwards and Myles Adams got in on the fun.
Giants 2022 first-round pick edge defender Kayvon Thibodeaux had a game the team hopes to see more of. He recorded two sacks, one from a very nice win to the inside right off the line. Thibodeaux also had a near interception and got in passing lanes several times throughout the game.
Rookie spotlight: Seahawks rookie cornerback Devon Witherspoon was the best player on the field tonight, with two sacks, a 97-yard pick-six and another defensive stop against the run. Witherspoon was everywhere and looks comfortable out wide or in the slot.
Giants rookie wide receiver Jalin Hyatt had two receptions for 10 yards, and unfortunately, rookie center John Michael Schmitz left the game after just 11 with an injury.
