Week 14 Monday Night Football Statistical Review: Chargers take down reeling Eagles in overtime

  • Four interceptions doomed the Eagles' passing game: It was not Jalen Hurts‘ night. He technically accounted for five turnovers, fumbling after recovering an initial fumble off one of his interceptions.
  • Scrambles proved crucial for the Chargers' offense: Los Angeles generated 0.05 EPA per play on scrambles on a night when their dropbacks led to -0.39 EPA per play overall.

The Los Angeles Chargers created some breathing room for their playoff push, beating the Philadelphia Eagles 22-19 on Monday Night Football to close Week 14.

Game Summary

According to the PFF noise-canceled score metric, the game produced even fewer points than the already modest final score, with both teams struggling to move the ball.

Passing Summary

Neither team fielded an efficient passing offense — but for very different reasons. The Eagles threw four interceptions, completely tanking their otherwise average performance. The Chargers simply couldn’t get much going due to failing to protect quarterback Justin Herbert, a frequent occurrence this season.

Receiving Summary

The most productive receiver for the Chargers was running back Kimani Vidal and his 60 receiving yards, all on one play. There is not much else to be said about the team's receiving production.

Although A.J. Brown is getting more opportunities and producing, the Eagles were at least winning when he was having quiet weeks. He racked up a whopping 204 air yards on 13 targets and finished with 100 true receiving yards, making him, by far, the most productive Eagles receiver.

Rushing Summary

Neither team was particularly consistent on the ground. The Eagles benefited from one breakaway run from Saquon Barkley but couldn’t get much done otherwise, even against fairly light boxes.
