Texans RB Joe Mixon could land on PUP list

Houston Texans running back Joe Mixon could land on the PUP list, according to the Houston Chronicle’s Jonathan M. Alexander.

Mixon has been dealing with lingering foot and ankle issues in training camp and would miss at least the first four games of the regular season if he were placed on the PUP list. At the very least, his availability for Week 1 against the Los Angeles Rams is in question.

Mixon rushed for more than 1,000 yards and scored 11 touchdowns in his first season with the Texans, finishing the year as PFF’s 17th-ranked running back in overall grade (75.8). If he were to miss time, Nick Chubb would likely work as the Texans’ lead back.

Falcons T Kaleb McGary carted off at practice

Atlanta Falcons right tackle Kaleb McGary was carted off at Wednesday’s practice with a left leg injury, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

McGary signed a two-year, $30 million extension earlier this month before entering what would have been a contract year. The former first-round pick out of Washington has developed into one of the better tackles in the NFL, especially as a run blocker. His best season came in 2022, when his 86.6 PFF overall grade ranked fourth out of 81 qualifying tackles.

The Falcons have one of the strongest offensive lines in the NFL, landing eighth in PFF’s rankings heading into the season.

Dolphins are activating TE Darren Waller off PUP list

The Miami Dolphins activated tight end Darren Waller off the PUP list Wednesday.

Waller practiced for the first time since he came out of retirement for the New York Giants, who traded him to Miami in early July. The 32-year-old tight end has not played a game since Week 18 of the 2023 season as a member of the Giants.

Waller has been a productive NFL player, particularly in the passing game. His 69.4 PFF overall grade in 2023 ranked 18th among 72 qualifying tight ends. He figures to have a significant role in Miami’s offense behind Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle and De'Von Achane.

Patriots open to trading S Kyle Dugger

The New England Patriots are open to trading safety Kyle Dugger, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Dugger signed a four-year, $58 million deal with the team in April 2024, which will complicate matters for a potential trade. His role under new head coach Mike Vrabel has been reduced in camp, leading to speculation that a trade is coming.

The former second-round pick had a poor 2024 season, finishing the year ranked last among 96 qualifying safeties in PFF coverage grade (34.8). He allowed a career-high six touchdowns in coverage last season. Dugger's best season as a pro came in 2022, when he earned a 78.4 PFF overall grade.
