The competition between Jones and Anthony Richardson was considered “neck and neck” throughout camp, but it’s Jones, who signed a one-year, $14 million contract with the team in March, who will be under center in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins.
Jones has performed better through two preseason games, with a 73.2 PFF passing grade compared to Richardson’s 56.6 mark. Richardson has been the ultimate boom-or-bust quarterback since entering the league in 2022. He ranked second in big-time throw percentage (6.8%) last season, but his 4.7% turnover-worthy play rate was also the second highest in the NFL.
For now, the Colts will move forward with Jones, but there is a strong possibility Richardson will have his chance to shine at some point.
Buccaneers WR Jalen McMillan to miss the start of the season with a strained neck
Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Jalen McMillan will miss the start of the season after suffering a severely strained neck in the team's Week 2 preseason game, according to head coach Todd Bowles.
#Buccaneers WR Jalen McMillan (neck) is expected to miss a significant chunk of the regular season, perhaps around half of it, as @NFLSTROUD reported. With Chris Godwin still on PUP, Tampa will need rookie first-rounder Emeka Ebuka to hit the ground running.

McMillan was a third-round pick in last year’s draft and struggled early in the season, recording no more than four receptions and 35 receiving yards in any of his first eight games. He was one of the league's more productive wideouts over the Buccaneers' last five games, averaging nearly five receptions and 63 yards while scoring seven touchdowns over that stretch.
Tampa Bay has arguably the deepest wide receiver corps in the NFL with Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, McMillan and first-round rookie Emeka Egbuka. If Godwin, who is recovering from a dislocated ankle, starts the season on the PUP list, the Buccaneers’ depth will be tested early.
Giants T Andrew Thomas activated off PUP list
New York Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas was activated off the PUP list and will return to practice this week, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Thomas will ramp up his activity at practice over the next few weeks, with the goal of being ready for Week 1 against the Washington Commanders. The Giants’ 57.6 PFF pass-blocking grade last year ranked 28th in the NFL, so having their top offensive lineman back is crucial to the team’s success moving forward.
Thomas has been one of the best left tackles in the league since he was picked fourth overall in the 2020 NFL Draft. His 90.1 PFF overall grade since the 2021 season ranks sixth among all left tackles.
Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks won’t practice this week with a calf injury
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks won’t practice this week as he recovers from a calf injury, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Tom Silverstein.

Wicks has been sidelined since the first week of August after he tried to play through a lingering calf injury. Silverstein adds that “there’s hope” Wicks will be ready for Green Bay’s opener against the Detroit Lions in Week 1, but that appears closer to 50-50 at this point.
Wicks has been a productive player in a crowded Packers receiving room over the past two years, accounting for 78 receptions, 996 yards and nine touchdowns. The former fifth-round pick can take his game to another level this season if he cuts down on his drops (nine in 2024). He should earn more playing time early on, with Christian Watson likely to start the season on the PUP list.
