Baltimore Ravens acquire LB Roquan Smith from the Chicago Bears

  • The Ravens are sending linebacker AJ Klein in addition to a 2023 second- and fifth-round pick to Chicago for Smith. Chicago will eat most of Smith’s remaining salary.
  • Smith leads the league in tackles this season with 83 and also has 2.5 sacks and two interceptions – but his PFF grade on the year is just 50.8. He’s earned sub-36.0 PFF grades in three games, including this past week against Dallas after allowing a touchdown and three first downs in coverage.
  • Baltimore has been seeking inside linebacker help for a while, dating back to the offseason when it was a finalist for Bobby Wagner, who ended up with the Los Angeles Rams.
  • Smith is in the final year of his rookie contract and requested a trade out of Chicago during training camp after both sides failed to reach a long-term contract extension.
  • Chicago is now set to have nine draft picks in the 2023 NFL Draft after trading Robert Quinn and Smith, including six in the first four rounds. The Bears are also expected to have over $100 million in cap space this offseason, by far the most in the NFL.

Detroit Lions fire defensive backs coach Aubrey Pleasant

  • The Lions are off to a 1-6 start on the season, and their defense has been abysmal, posting a 40.4 coverage grade this season — the worst in the league. The Lions have allowed a 112.9 passer rating — the highest in the league.
  • Pleasant came over from the Rams last offseason when Detroit hired Dan Campbell. He was the cornerbacks coach under Sean McVay from 2017-2020.
  • “I think Aubrey is a hell of a coach. I have a ton of respect for him. It was a tough decision, but we’re a production-based business and after seven weeks, it just felt like this change needed to be made,” head coach Dan Campbell said.
  • Safeties coach Brian Duker will take over Pleasant’s responsibilities.

Baltimore Ravens lose WR Rashod Bateman for a few weeks

  • Bateman re-aggravated his foot injury during this past Thursday night’s game against Tampa Bay.
  • The team initially thought it wasn’t serious, but further testing revealed he would need to miss some time.
  • Bateman has already missed two games this season due to a foot injury. He’s recorded just 15 catches for 285 yards on the season, earning a 61.6 PFF grade.
  • Baltimore recently signed veteran DeSean Jackson and he could make his season debut on Monday night against New Orleans.

Minnesota Vikings TE Irv Smith Jr. has a high ankle sprain

  • Smith had four catches for 28 yards on Sunday against Arizona. He has 22 catches for 168 yards and two touchdowns on the season, earning a 57.4 PFF grade.
  • High-ankle sprains are typically a four-to-six-week injury.
  • Johnny Mundt and Jacob Hollister are Minnesota's other tight ends on the active roster.
