NFL Week 14 fantasy football start ’em, sit ’em

  • Start Justin Jefferson, but not the other Minnesota Vikings wide receivers: While Jefferson hasn’t had as much production with J.J. McCarthy, he has still scored enough fantasy points to be a fantasy starter in this week's favorable matchup. The other Vikings receivers haven’t had the same success with McCarthy and don’t have as favorable a matchup.

I asked fantasy managers on the PFF Discord and Bluesky which players they are least sure about this week, and I compiled that list and ranked them against one another. If you have multiple players mentioned, you should start with the player ranked highest. At the bottom of each position, you'll find players to start in place of the featured players and those to sit in favor of them.

If a player isn’t mentioned, that means they are very close to those with blurbs, and factors such as injuries on the opposing defenses or weather could influence the rankings. Situations involving injuries are also generally avoided because things typically don't become clearer until closer to kickoff. As always, check the weekly PFF fantasy rankings for the most up-to-date information to help you make all start-sit decisions.

RUNNING BACKS

1. Kenneth Walker III, Seattle Seahawks

Walker played more than 55% of the Seahawks' offensive snaps for a second straight week, after achieving that in one game during the first 11 weeks.

Seattle has used a two-man backfield rotation, between Walker and Zach Charbonnet, all season. Walker has played more than 50% of the snaps in normal early-downs each week but less than 35% of snaps on third downs, in two-minute drills, in short-yardage situations and on goal-line plays.

Before Week 12, head coach Mike Macdonald mentioned that Walker had earned a larger role in the offense. He subsequently played a season-high 62.5% of the offensive snaps, including more than 50% of the third-down snaps and 50% of the goal-line snaps. This week, his playing time decreased slightly, but it was still better than it had been for most of the season. He ran 13 times for 56 yards and caught three passes for 18 yards.

Walker's rushing efficiency hasn’t been a problem, but his receiving and scoring production have been. Week 13 marked his third straight game with three receptions after he had notched one or fewer in seven of his previous eight games. He has also played 63.6% of the goal-line snaps since Week 9, so the touchdowns should be on the way. Charbonnet broke a 17-yard touchdown run this past week, but that was from a big play rather than the usual goal-line snaps.

Seattle plays the Atlanta Falcons, who allowed 32 carries for 244 yards and three touchdowns to the Indianapolis Colts three weeks ago but did a nice job slowing down Rico Dowdle, Devin Neal and Breece Hall in the past three weeks. They’ve surrendered the seventh-most fantasy points to running backs this season. Falcons injuries have contributed to the Seahawks being favored by a touchdown. The game script should allow Walker to see significant volume.

Walker has the upside of an RB1 this week, but the risk of Atlanta slowing his efficiency keeps him as a mid-range RB2. He should be in fantasy starting lineups in most leagues.
