2024 Recap
While Texas Tech enjoyed a very solid 8-5 campaign in 2024, this year’s version of the Red Raiders is set to profit even more from offseason success. With help from billionaire alumnus Cody Campbell, Texas Tech signed the best transfer portal class in the nation. Stars like defensive tackle Lee Hunter, tight end Terrance Carter Jr. and edge defender David Bailey are now Red Raiders, in addition to eight other high-level projected starters.
Texas Tech will field easily the best defensive line in the Big 12 — and one of the best in college football. With a loaded roster, the only real question mark is if Behren Morton can be consistent enough under center to take the Red Raiders to the College Football Playoff.
Biggest Strength: The nation’s best transfer portal class
Texas Tech completely remade its roster this offseason with an incredible transfer class. The biggest beneficiary was the defensive line, which is now a top-three unit in the country, thanks to a starting four entirely made up of incoming transfers.
Biggest Weakness: Can Behren Morton be consistent enough to lead the team to a Big 12 title?
Morton earned a very solid 79.7 PFF overall grade as Texas Tech’s starting quarterback in 2024, but he was still inconsistent. He had six starts with an 80.0-plus PFF passing grade and five with a sub-60.0 PFF passing grade.
