Allgeier

Allgeier was a fifth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. He was inactive in Week 1 that year, but after a 10-carry, 84-yard performance in Week 4, he started constantly seeing double-digit carries. He wasn’t as productive over October, leading to less playing time in November. He blew up over the last eight weeks of the season. His 5.5 yards per carry was the best mark for a running back with at least 70 carries during that stretch, and his 15 explosive runs were the third most, behind Nick Chubb and Josh Jacobs.

Allgeier's competition for touches comes completely from Bijan Robinson. The Falcons lost third-string running back Cordarrelle Patterson in free agency, and replacement Jase McClellan is unlikely to see significant playing time unless there is an injury. Allgeier has graded better than Robinson as both a rusher and receiver and has spent the offseason improving as a receiver. This presumably means the Atlanta coaching staff wants the two running backs to be used interchangeably. So, whichever running back is playing better should theoretically be the one starting.

Allgeier should currently be picked as if he will be a backup who doesn't get a lot of playing time, but he is among the best handcuff options in the league thanks to his talent, the offensive line and a lack of competition after him on the depth chart.
