A few months back, I looked at the ages of top fantasy running backs. The results were fairly definitive, showing a startling drop from the number of top running backs before and after 29 years old. Since then, I wanted to see if similar conclusions could be reached at other positions, or if running backs were the anomaly. First up were tight ends.
To determine if there was such a trend at the position, I looked at the top 12 fantasy tight ends for each year dating back to 2009. I took 12 since that’s typically the number of starting tight ends in a standard fantasy league, whether it’s re-draft or dynasty format. I used the ages of those players in the years they were top 12 performers and tallied them to look for trends, if any.
