A former undrafted free agent in 2015, Justin Coleman was signed and waived by three teams before his two-year stint with the New England Patriots (2015-16). Miscast at outside cornerback in New England, Coleman earned just a 58.4 coverage grade across 485 coverage snaps with the Pats before the Seattle Seahawks traded a seventh-rounder for the young defensive back in 2017.
In his final season at Tennessee (2014), Coleman earned top-20 marks in coverage grade (72.4), passer rating when targeted (65.4) and completion percentage allowed (59.7%) while playing primarily sot cornerback. He allowed 34 receptions from 57 targets for 406 yards and one touchdown while logging three interceptions at slot cornerback that season.
Seattle turned back the clock for Coleman, starting him in the slot from Day 1, and he benefited significantly as a result.
