Washington, RB Thompson agree on contract extension

  • According to the team, the Washington Redskins and running back Chris Thompson have agreed to a contract extension through 2019. The deal reportedly features $6.5 million in guaranteed money. Thompson, the Redskins’ 2013 fifth-round pick, is coming off a career year in which he earned an overall grade of 70.1 that ranked 42nd out of 62 running backs.
  • Known as a being primarily a receiving back, Thompson has been moderately productive catching the ball. In 2015, he ranked 27th out of 57 qualifying running backs in yards per route run at 1.4 and in in 2016 he ranked 30th out of 43 at 1.13.
  • In limited touches last season Thompson showed he was dangerous with the ball in his hands. Among running backs with at least 60 touches he ranked eighth in elusive rating at 61.6 after forcing 23 missed tackles on 68 touches and generating 3.13 yards after contact per carry.
