Shifting Crowder might not suit the slot-specialist's strengths

In 2016, Jamison Crowder led the Washington receiving corps in yards after the catch (383), yards after catch per reception (5.7) and total touchdowns (seven).
Last season, Redskins QB Kirk Cousins achieved a passer rating of 112.9 when targeting Crowder, the 10th highest rate of any quarterback when targeting any one receiver.
The majority of Crowder’s production came from the slot as he averaged 1.55 yards per route run in the slot (ninth among receivers).
He lined up in the slot for 72.6 percent of his offensive snaps last year, averaging 13.43 yards per catch from that position, ranking him third among all slot receivers with at least 50 targets.
Crowder scored all seven of his touchdowns from the slot, good enough for second among slot receivers.
He only dropped two catchable passes on 46 targets, tying him for the third best drop percentage as well.
In contrast, on the outside (25.53 percent of snaps), Crowder averaged only 1.39 yards per route run, ranking him 62nd of all outside receivers. He averaged 9.53 yards per catch, ranking him 112th. He didn’t record a single score when working from the outside.
