  • The Washington Redskins have placed inside linebacker Mason Foster on injured reserve, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. Foster will now undergo season-ending surgery to repair the torn Labrum he suffered during the team’s Week 2 victory against the Los Angeles Rams.
  • Foster missed Week 3, but returned to the starting line up in Week 4, and has been mightily productive for the Redskins defense since, despite his injury. Against the run, he’s produced seven stops on 65 run defense snaps, resulting in a run stop percentage of 10.8 percent, good for fourth among inside linebackers with at least 40 run defense snaps during that span. In coverage, he’s allowed a reception once every 12.3 coverage snaps, good for ninth among the same group.
  • The Redskins will especially miss Foster’s effectiveness on blitzes. Through Foster’s five games, Washington has sent him to rush the passer on 21.6 percent of his team’s pass defense snaps, and he’s produced two sacks, one hit and 10 hurries, for a pass-rush productivity of 28.5, the best mark among inside linebackers with at least five pass-rush snaps this year.
  • With Foster out, third-year linebacker Martrell Spaight will see an uptick in playing time. Spaight has the potential to fill the void against the ground game, having already produced four tackles and three stops on the 17 run defense snaps that he’s played this season.
