- Cleveland Browns rookie QB DeShone Kizer has been getting reps with the first team in the quarterback rotation at the team’s minicamp, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, while QB Cody Kessler has struggled with batted passes at practice.
- Last season at Notre Dame, Kizer earned a 71.2 overall grade in a down year, the 56th overall graded quarterback in the country (minimum 250 snaps).
- He was good at extending plays with his feet and finding receivers late in plays. In 2016, Kizer had an NFL passer rating of 107.0 on plays that lasted 2.6 seconds or longer, good for 10th best among FBS quarterbacks.
- Where Kizer was at his best, though, was on play action. He led the country in NFL passer rating on passes after play action at 154.7. His completion percentage was 21.2 percent higher on play action passes than passes without it, was the biggest jump of any quarterback with at least 300 total dropbacks.
