- Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News is reporting that Lorenzo Alexander will play strong side linebacker in the Bills 4-3 defense under new coach Sean McDermott. Alexander had the best season of his career playing outside linebacker in Rex Ryan's 3-4 scheme last year, but has played all over the defense in his NFL career.
- Alexander had mostly been a special teams player before 2016, a season which he played 788 snaps on defense, the most of his ten year career. His overall PFF grade of 80.6 was a career high, and 29th among all edge defenders.
- In 2016 Alexander had a pass rush productivity rating of 11.0 (pressure on a per snap basis with weighting towards sacks), 11th best among all 3-4 outside linebackers with at least 300 pass rush snaps, even though he tied Von Miller for 14 sacks over the year. He also had the fourth best run stop percentage of all 3-4 outside backers with at least 200 run snaps at 8.7%.
