- According to Justin Rodgers, the Detroit Lions have signed edge defender George Johnson and waived Alex Barrett. Johnson spent 2014 with Detroit before signing a large free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers while Barrett, an undrafted free agent, was a preseason standout. Barrett could re-join the Lions on their practice squad.
- 2014 was Johnson’s best season as a pro, and it happened to be with the Lions. That season he earned an overall grade of 70.2. He was a solid pass-rusher opposite Ziggy Ansah, generating 39 total pressures (7 sacks, 5 hits, 27 hurries) for a pass-rush productivity of 10.0, which ranked 12th among 4-3 defensive ends.
- Since leaving Detroit, Johnson has dealt with injuries, playing just 437 snaps over the past two seasons.
- Barrett had really struggled in limited opportunity during the first two games. On 25 total snaps, he earned an overall grade of just 49.7.
