- On Wednesday, the New York Jets waived safety Doug Middleton after he tore his pec in the preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans. The team signed Kenbrell Thompkins to replace his roster spot.
- An UDFA out of Appalachian State, Middleton signed with the Jets this offseason. His first outing with the team earned him a spot on the preseason week 1 PFF team of the week as the highest-graded safety at 89.8.
- This past week Middleton played 43 of 64 snaps and was targeted two times in coverage, allowing no catches and deflecting a pass. He also had a stop and two tackles.
- Kenbrell Thompkins did not play a regular season snap last season, but played 1315 snaps from 2013-2015 with the New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders, and New York Jets.
