- According to Josina Anderson, Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict is facing a three-game suspension due to an illegal hit. Burfict reportedly hit Kansas City Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman while he was in a “defenseless posture” during the teams’ preseason game Sunday.
- (Editors Note: This story has been updated to reflect the reduction in Burfict's suspension to three games from the original five games.)
- Burfict excelled in run defense last year, boasting the third-highest run-stop percentage (percentage of plays against the run where a defender records a tackle resulting in a defensive stop) among 28 qualifying 4-3 outside linebackers with 10.2. His 26 stops (a tackle that constitutes a win for the defense) against the run were the fifth-most in the league among 34 qualifying 4-3 outside linebackers.
- Burfict’s overall grade of 87.1 was the second-highest grade among all AFC linebackers, with only Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Paul Posluszny grading higher.
