  • The Kansas City Chiefs elevated first-round pick Patrick Mahomes to second-string quarterback after their first preseason game, according to Terez Paylor.
  • Mahomes played 18 snaps on Friday night against the 49ers and received a 78.9 overall grade, with a 77.6 grade in the passing game (good for seventh in the entire league during the first week of the preseason).
  • Mahomes handled the blitz well in his small sample, completing both of his passes in that situation for 22 yards and a 112.5 passer rating.
  • His main competition for the second job, veteran Tyler Bray, was not as impressive Friday, throwing an interception in eight pass attempts and generating just a 47.4 passer rating.
