  • After a rookie season where his 89.7 overall grade ranked fifth among edge defenders, by comparison Joey Bosa of the Los Angeles Chargers is off to a slow start.
  • Through four weeks, Bosa's overall PFF grade of 66.8 ranks 67th at the position as both his pass rushing and run defense grades have declined.
  • In his rookie year, Bosa's pass-rushing grade of 87.7 ranked fourth at the position. So far his 2017 grade of 71.0 ranks 55th. The drop off against the run is steeper, as Bosa's grade in 2016 of 87.5 was seventh best, while his 2017 grade of 50.3 ranks 70th.
  • With Gus Bradley being brought in as defensive coordinator, it is worth noting that Bosa has been adjusting from playing as an outside linebacker and a defensive end in a 3-4 defense, to a traditional end in a 4-3. While his pass rushing production may not be up to the high bar that was set, it is encouraging that Bosa has managed to rack up ten total quarterback hurries to this point.
