- Paul Dehner Jr of the Cincinnati Enquirer has reported that the Cincinnati Bengals have activated veteran cornerback Adam Jones from the reserve/suspended list. Jones missed Week 1 due to a one-game suspension, but will likely start in his team’s second game against the Houston Texans.
- In Jones’ absence, the Bengals turned to fourth-year cornerback Darqueze Dennard in their opening game against the Baltimore Ravens, and he struggled in coverage, allowing a passer rating of 121.5 on throws into his primary coverage.
- Jones played 97.2 percent of his team’s defensive in 2016, and ended the campaign ranked 34th of 109 qualifying cornerbacks with a PFF overall grade of 76.7. He was the Bengals best performer in coverage, and allowed an average of just 0.79 yards per cover snap, the league’s seventh-best mark.
- His performance in coverage was by no means a surprise, as Jones has been one of the most productive cornerbacks in the NFL over recent years. From 2011-2016, Jones has allowed an average of 0.94 yards per cover snap, the third-best mark among cornerbacks who have played at least 1000 coverage snaps over that time.
