- It’s been a challenging start to the season for Colorado State WR Michael Gallup, whose 4.34 yards per route in 2016 led all returning receivers. He’s gone up against two potential NFL cornerbacks in Oregon State’s Xavier Crawford and Colorado’s Isaiah Oliver in this first two weeks of action.
- Gallup had a fine game against Oregon State (11 receptions, 134 yards), but was only targeted three times against Crawford. He came away with two catches for 55 yards including a nifty 48-yarder in which he made a nice adjustment to an off-target throw.
- The matchup between Gallup and Oliver is likely to go down as one of the season’s best as Gallup was targeted 10 times, coming away with four catches for 52 yards, not including a negated 33-yarder on a questionable offensive pass interference call. Oliver, who has immense potential, also managed two pass breakups in the matchup, first on a deep post and later on a comeback route.
